Composite and Low-maintenance Decks

Composite Decks

Choosing A Low-Maintenance Composite Deck

An important step in the process of building a deck is choosing the right materials. The choices used to be that you would build with Cedar, pressure-treated wood, or an exotic wood like Philippine Mahogany. Today there are many new alternative decking materials from which to choose.

Many people are choosing the composite decking solutions because they are:

  • Durable: resist mildew, warping and insects
  • Low maintenance: no need to paint, stain, or seal
  • Long-lasting: are warrantied to have a long life
  • A greener alternative: no trees need to be cut down

We are always discovering great new products as we visit various trade shows for builders but these four product lines we have experience with and we can recommend:

  • AZEK Decks by Azek Building Products
  • NyloBoard
  • Trex
  • Timbertech

Below is a video demonstrating a sampling of how various AZEK Deck products can change the look and feel of the same deck.

Testimonial for Cutek Wood Protection Oil

cutek on a pergola

I'm a huge fan of Cutek Wood Protection Oil. Ross introduced it to me 2 years ago and I've recommended it to all of my customers and used it ever since. It applies easily and evenly and really enhances the wood grain and colour. The oil penetrates well and seals the wood better than anything I've used. It comes in great colours and its UV protection barrier really works. In the picture above we've used it on this pergola to enhance its look, AND more importantly, to protect it from the elements.
