Building ideas: from age-old advice to the state-of-the-art

Rosario Ungaro - Friday, November 16, 2012

Benchmark Building Services works hard to bring the latest building materials, tools, and techniques to your project. For some building contractors, deciding to take time away from the job site to attend a trade show might seem a little frivolous in this tough economy. After all, getting jobs done so they can move on to the next one is how they make money in the building trade. For us, however, it isn't frivolous. It's actually part of our company's mission.

Our mission is to not only provide you with second-to-none quality workmanship in everything we build. It is also to provide our customers with creative cost-effective solutions that use the latest developments in building technologies, tools, and materials that meet our exacting standards. Trade shows are one place we keep up-to-date. They aren't an option for us. They're essential. This past year we were at the National Home Show in Toronto and the DeckExpo in Baltimore. This year we're also going to the NAHB International Home Show in Las Vegas.

Rosario at DeckExpoAt these shows we find out about new materials, products, technologies, and tools. We also meet and build relationships with manufacturers, suppliers and fellow builders from across North America. We share stories and experiences about various products—what's good and what isn't—and the product's vendors—which companies stand by their product and have good warranties and customer service, etc., and which don't. We learn as much from our casual chats as we do from the exhibits, exhibitors, brochures and demonstrations because it is based on the real-world experience of some of the best contractors in North America.

And, everything we learn is good for our customers.

So, we're going to keep going to trade shows and we're going to use our BLOG to share both time-tested advice as well as the state-of-the art in building materials, tools, and techniques so you can be a better consumer when you are ready to build. We hope you stay tuned.

That’s all for now. Until next time, we’ll keep “Building it Right!”™

A word from Rosario…

Our Blog is about sharing some of what we have learned along the way. (Many contractors even call us for ideas or advice.) We hope it is informative and shows our commitment to continuous learning—something we do so we can bring the very latest and best to our customers.

You've probably heard the phrase:

"Some people have twenty-five years of experience. Others have one year of experience, twenty-five times over."

If a contractor doesn't stay up-to-date on the latest building codes, trends, styles, tools, materials, and products, they'll soon find themselves in the latter category. We work hard to make sure that we are not. We regularly talk with our suppliers, go to industry trade shows, and share information and ideas with our peers to make sure that we stay on top of our game and can continue to bring you the very best in building craftsmanship and knowledge.

I welcome the opportunity to chat with you about your next building project.
