If you are considering (or have put in) a beautiful outdoor space for your home you know that it can be quite an investment. And, when you take into account the weather and the seasons we deal with in Toronto, getting a return (in terms of utility) for that investment has to be garnered in about five (six if we’re lucky) months every year plus or minus the “too hot” and “rainy” days.
So, it only makes sense that you maximize the usability of your outdoor space and get the most bang for your buck.

Maximize the Usability of Your Outdoor Space
A product we regularly recommend to our customers is the ShadeFX Retractable Canopy. It is a great addition to a pergola and allows you to use your outdoor space, rain or shine. On perfect days you can have it open. But, when the sun is hot you can close it up and protect yourself (and your furniture) from the sun’s harmful rays. Same goes for when it rains. You’ve invested in your outdoor space, why not enjoy it as much as possible.
Patented Monorail Drive
A great feature of the ShadeFX product is its monorail drive pergola canopy system. Many canopies get twisted because of settling of the structure which can make them hard to open, especially if they are on multiple tracks. The patent-pending monorail system avoids this problem and makes opening and closing your awning easy and smooth.
Many of us also like to invest in cushioned outdoor furniture. Keeping it covered when you’re not using it, or when you are, protects it from fading and rain, helping you extend the life and aesthetics of your outdoor furniture.
Cover Your Entire Deck
“Shade Pergolas can be used to cover large areas up to 600 square-feet. Typical retractable awnings extend only 13 feet,” says Steve Ostrowski, president of ShadeFX Canopies.* For larger spaces, multiple canopies can be used, both opening outward from the center, for example. The canopies can be attached to your home but work just as well when covering a freestanding pergola.
Opening the canopy is quite easy but for larger canopies a motorized retractable system is recommended. Over a certain size it is mandatory.
